Lucas Macfarlane returns to TV like a gay soldier

Out actor Luke Macfarlane of Brothers & Sisters fame returns to TV in new gay role Plays Army vet secretly dating Lucas MacfarlaneBrendan Fehr's doctor character on NBC's The Night Shift.

Macfarlane was born in London, Ontario. His late father, Thomas, was the Director of Student Health Services at the University of Western Ontario, and his mother, Penny, is a mental health nurse at a London hospital. Macfarlane attended London Central Secondary School with twin sister Ruth and older sister Rebecca.


Lucas MacfarlaneFor four years, Luke Macfarlane played one-half of one of the most popular gay couples on US network television as part of the cast of ABC's Brothers & Sisters.

Starting 27 May, the actor will again be a part of a gay couple but in very different circumstances on NBC's summer series The Night Shift. The show is about as group of men and women who work at San Antonio Memorial Hospital.

Macfarlane, who is openly gay in real life, plays US Army soldier Rick Lincoln who is secretly involved with an Army soldier-turned-doctor at the hospital played by Brendan Fehr of Roswell fame.

It was from 2006 through 2011 that Macfarlane played the popular character of Scotty Wandell on Brothers & Sisters. Scotty was romantically involved with and later married one of the show's main characters played by Matthew Rhys.

On The Night Shift, it is revealed towards the end of the pilot that Fehr's character is a closeted gay man. We will later learn that he’s got a boyfriend still fighting in Afghanistan – but he’s coming home soon.
